Scribble Picnic (Little Women...)

I tackled this week's Scribble Picnic theme (BIRDS) a bit differently by incorporating it deeper into an illustration. Uh huh. Can you find it? Do you see it weaved into one of the darling dresses designed for these sweet sisters? I provided a couple of up-close snapshots so you can view the outfits a bit more.

It was quite enjoyable putting this piece together as I took extra time out in exploring colors, patterns, hairstyles and more. You can see a bit of this in the last photo posted above. A few days ago, I started illustrating book characters. The first was dear Anne Shirley in "Anne of Green Gables" and today is Louisa May Alcott's, "Little Women". Do you have a favorite book? Let me know when you leave your comment below and I'll see about illustrating it over the next week or so.

OK, I'm grabbing my favorite picnic blanket while the sun is still shining, and racing to meet the rest of the gang over at Michael's backyard. Happy Scribble Picnic!

I have tons of favorite book though I can't remember all the characters from them but anne shirley of green gables is definitely one of them. I just re-read 'the secret garden' and loved that book. & also Matilda, I like her smartness.

    have a lovely day.

  4. Sneaky you, that bird patterned fabric is so sweet. As are your sisters. I almost thought you were making some paper dolls with interchangeable clothing. Checked out your little Anne - so cute!

  7. It took a bit, but I did find the birds before reading your answer. Before I found them, I was trying to decide if some of the hair buns were supposed to look like bird nests! :-D Love these little women!

  8. Such charming outfits you designed. I would wear them all. Birds as a design in the fabric is a creative idea. Such a dear piece.

  9. This is so lovely, Alexandra! I loved the 'Little Women' book and the movies too. I never read 'Anne of Green Gables' but I was totally hooked on the Mini-series...bought the DVD set, in fact.

I've never read 'Little House on the Prairie' books but loved the TV series. I figure it could be fun to illustrate.

    Have a lovely weekend ~ :)
