Scribble Picnic: The Velveteen Rabbit

The Velveteen Rabbit children's story has been a longtime favorite of mine and although there are other fictional characters I love and have drawn a time or two, I decided to bring this story to life in my own way. I love dreaming and am confident this is how I keep my child-like heart alive within!

I'm so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of Michael's Scribble Picnic. It's wonderful to be challenged to not only come up with new ideas but the fellowship at each week's picnic is something to cherish. Thank you to each of you for your well wishes. It seems I'm finally on the uphill and should be fully on my feet by the end of the week. For now, I'm sad to miss the festivities of food and delicious drink this week as I must remain in bed resting, snuggling my hot water bottle...and dreaming new dreams for this year.

  7. Chin up dear Alexandra!!!!!
Your Velveteen Rabbit illustration is lovely - I hope thoughts of him as your favorite character will help you rest and be well again VERY soon - so sorry this bronchitis is lingering. Stay warm, snuggle, dream good dreams and be over it soon.
Went to see Cassie and the little boys yesterday - they are adorable (Owen slept 2 hrs.in my arms) and that cutie-pie Colin is such a great little guy and so much fun to be with.
    Love, Mary

  8. My goodness, you have been sick for awhile. I am glad you are feeling better, but sorry your holidays had you under the weather. I do love your child-like heart and all the warm, endearing pictures you draw for us and for children. I await a new Children's book from you ... are you in the process? Rest well, Alexandra and dream of new ideas that you can put down on paper for the world to see.

  9. Alexandra, I like you adore Velveteen Rabbit. I considered him when I first saw the prompt for this week. But I had just finished the latest book in the series of No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, and Precious was on my mind.

I read that book to my young children, again to my teenagers, again to the adults and now the grandchildren and greats. That book will never get old and the story so precious and so many lessons to be learned.

I love your illustration. Yes, I have a rabbit on my bed, and it has been there for years, and will stay... Hugs..So praying you are better by the time you are reading this.

  10. I love this Alexandra :) I remember the story, but vaguely! I'll have to revisit the tale. I'm glad to hear you're on the mend, but if you like I'll bring you a nice buttered rum or a hot toddy to help with your sniffles. :)

  11. Would you believe I had never heard of the Velveteen Rabbit until this past year of so. Your illustration is lovely Alexandra, and when I saw it, I instantly thought of you having to get lots of bed rest these past couple of weeks. Poor you! I'm glad to hear you are on the mend. Keep up with resting and don't overdo things. xo
