Sunday Sketches: Mr. Fox's Birthday
I've been keeping busy this week with the illustrations for my upcoming children's poetry book, "Ladybug! Ladybug!" as well as, practicing some digital painting skills. Although watercolor painting will remain the primary medium for my children's illustration work, it's important to add the ability to digitally illustrate if/when necessary to my portfolio. Especially since I'm now seeking an agent representation.
Mr. Fox's Birthday turned out wonderfully and will be a part of the birthday series for the UK card company I'm currently designing greeting cards for. In fact, take a peek at one of the cards already sent to the printers this past week - Dash of Love. Isn't she darling? I'm looking forward to sharing more of the cards once I've received them in the mail.
Lastly, this weekend I had the opportunity to speak before a group of people within the community, sharing my life as an illustrator which included what my typical daily schedule looks like, how I became an illustrator, my process when illustrating a book, how I navigate and market myself on social media, and more. I had a great time and look forward to the next event. Oh, and a big thank you to my hubby for always being my photographer, art director, roadie and more, for each of my events. I couldn't do it without him.
OK, I'm off to visit and catch up with each of you. Here's to a lovely weekend!

DeleteWonderful work (do you actually call it work?!) illustrating a children's poem book! With such a fun title. Would have loved to be able to hear you speak and to learn more about you and your illustrative life!! Wishing you a wonderful sketchy Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteMichelle ♥
Yes, I do call it work as it's not my full-time job from home. It sounds like it's all wonderful and glamorous but there are days when deadlines loom, things don't quite work out as planned, etc. I'm not quite making a living from it but my work is slowing growing. :)
DeleteCongratulations Alexandra! All your new exciting endeavours are well deserved and I am so pleased for you.
ReplyDeleteAww....thank you SO much, Linda. And it was lovely having you pop in for a visit! :)

Such a cute fox and your card 'Dash of Love' is gorgeous. I love the fact that we are able to swap between traditional and digital media these days. They are so different, but both so much fun (to me).

ps ~ death of my 28 yo niece has impacted my blogging to say the least ~
I love your fox illustration! WOW, you certainly are keeping very busy. I think your talk would have been amazing and very helpful.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous week! xo
Darling illustration and congratulations :) !!
ReplyDeleteMr Fox is wonderful! He is, of course, the "present" himself! :) And so wonderful to do the outreach as well. . . so many people need that gentle nudge in the right direction in so many ways. My wife and I are constantly asked about making our living on Etsy and we always focus on all the details and small steps in between. . . so rarely on just the work itself. Your talks are, I am sure, inspired and helpful. Look forward to seeing the rest of the cards when they come thru.
ReplyDeleteYou just keep going from strength to strength, you really are inspiring! I so want to make it as an artist/illustrator, so I admire you greatly! x
ReplyDeleteWow!! I am so happy for you, with everything!! Congrats! Happy Birthday Mr. Fox! So cute! Hugs!
