Autumn is coming...

This weekend has been incredible so far. The weather has been cloudy with a light rain and temperatures hovering around the low 60's. We've had a lovely time so far, embracing the notion that Autumn is coming! From the smell of fading leaves to the crisp, morning smell of fresh rain - Can you smell/feel it?

Most of you know, we loveeeeee this time of year. Parts of it remind me of my childhood and the time spent at grandma's house. I have such fond memories with her and most of them were during the Fall. This time of year also seems to bring a sense of renewal to my spirit - creatively and emotionally. I'm not really sure why but knowing this, I do my best to soak it all in as much as possible. Thus all of the days spent cozied up on the sofa in my favorite baggy sweatshirt with a perfect hot cuppa in hand.

How about you? Do you like Autumn? What are some of the things you treasure about this time of year?

    1. Aww thank you, Carol. And I'm with you...last year, summer took over our Autumn and we had like 2 weeks of it before the snow hit us. I'm hoping for a longggg Autumn, too. :)

  3. This is, hands down, my favorite season of the year! Much like if does for you, the season carries renewal and inspiration in it's crisp air for me as well. There is a definite magic flitting about and the child in me is still tied to the "school schedule" of old I suppose. So even just seeing the back to school displays in the stores and remembering the thrill of picking out new folders, notebooks, a lunchbox etc. carries a certain feeling for me.

Fall always signals a time of new beginnings, far more than the new year, for me. Favored memories of Autumn are of the colors of the leaves and the raking of huge piles of them in my grandparents yard. Of late season canning and the start of my grandmother and the great aunts (she had 4 sisters in all) annual, three month long, holiday baking fest!

It was also a time of turning more inward with less play time outside and more alone/creative time inside to imagine, dream, write, invent. As a child, the shorter hours of light, the approaching holidays, leaves changing, hockey season, school, returning fall TV shows, all signaled that special time of year.

Now, I do everything I can to welcome it, pause for it and indulge in it each passing year. And even though it always leads to my second favorite season, winter, I always recognize that Autumn has a certain immediacy that makes it extra special and a touch of lovely melancholy for me. It always ends just a bit too soon. . . :)

  5. Autumn is spectacular. Leaves fall dramatically and there is a sense of loss all around, for the trees and the animals bracing themselves for the winter months. It's a beautiful season indeed. Great thoughts, and warm greetings to you!
