As the early hours roll in, seagulls gently touch our ears with their morning lullaby, informing us the sun has risen. A beautiful lull compared to the awkward and somewhat annoying coo from a neighborly pigeon every morning at 7:15 am. Impeccable timing, let me tell you.
As we roll over, pulling our newly found quilted treasure (above) up to our chins, snuzzling down for one last bit of warmth, fresh air tumbling off the sea willows its way through the open windows, caressing our skin with that final tug to rise and begin our day. Sounds glorious, doesn't? It certainly is and something I'll unquestionably miss when we return home to Colorado in mid-November.
Once dressed, Michael and I begin to make our way down to the seaside village for our daily morning walk and coffee date. Something I've come to cherish deeply. Every day here has been a reminder of how precious life is. We all will grow old one day. The question is, what will we do between now and then? For us, we're building memories to last a lifetime...
I am so glad you are settling in.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteThat really was such a shimmering sea that morning! Glorious! Great write up. Haha, I love that cooing pigeon, actually! :)
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was...seemed FILLED with a million diamonds that morning! Lovely and utterly romantic. :)
Deletethe sea photo is lovely :) I don't think about growing old, its going to happen no matter what I do, so just try to live life the best I can
ReplyDeleteThank you and good for you! I personally don't feel like I think in that way either. However, the hubby does at times. lol :D
DeleteThis time already seems to be going by so quickly!
ReplyDeleteReally?!!?! We're amazed it's only been a month! haha :)
DeleteEnjoyed your post. Your description of going for your morning walk sounds so nice. Love the quilt. Beautiful photo. I think the saying growing old isn't for sissies is probably correct.
ReplyDeleteAwww thank yo, Sandy. It was very lovely and breathtaking. Thank you for your lovely comment. :)
DeleteBeautifully written Alexandra. We have doves and wood pigeons cooing most mornings here too. They actually sit on top of the chimney pots which makes the sound reverberate. A very strange alarm!
ReplyDeleteThat view is stunning. What a great way to start your day :D
Thank you, Neesie. Yes, I can relate to the pigeons on the chimney pots. Back home in the US, they often did that mid-afternoon. lol xx
DeleteLife is so short! You have to live everyday to the fullest! What gorgeous pictures! WOW! Love your quilt! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly! Thank you for your lovely comments. Hugs to you as well. :)
DeleteAlexandra, I love this post. . . the little things are the things we will treasure when we reach that stage later in life. I grew up surrounded daily by an extended family of a half dozen great aunts, a few great uncles and my maternal grandparents, all of whom spoke mostly of the little moments from their lives, not the big ones. I'm glad I "got it" earlier than some. Every day is to be cherished and lived fully. It's just that "fully" is so often mistaken for busy or planning or striving. .. but it's the simple silences and moments between that are the truest measure of fully. : ) Lovely. . . thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNicolas, I think you said it all with your words of - "fully" is so often mistaken for busy or planning or striving..." SO true and even we, have had to step back at times to slow down. I want to find myself cherishing those small things more than material things. xx
DeleteHow wonderful your mornings there are indeed. I admire you for finding and appreciating the beauty that surrounds you.
ReplyDeleteHi Kindred Wow..Beautiful photos, the quilt is stunning and lovely! Gorgeous nature scenery too..looks blissful and peaceful to me..how i would love to roam there!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the beauty!! Shine on!!

Lovely post, Alexandra! I admit that I love the sound of pigeons/doves cooing. It's definitely more restful and soothing than my cockatiel who starts loudly chirruping at the top of his lungs around 7am every morning. I don't mind as I'm always up at 5am but my youngest son hates it. hehe
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I lost my Dad to Parkinson's and a stroke 18 months ago. It can be heart-wrenching to see them decline. Keeping you, Michael, and family in my prayers.
I've always wanted to live close to the sea...how lucky you are!
Have a beautiful week. xx
All well said and lovely photos too! :) thank you.
