Sunday Sketches: Delighted Heart

As I continue to work through my online classes, custom work and picture books I'm illustrating, my childlike heart has been exploding in unimaginable ways! As the excitement and giddiness rises inside, memories from my childhood begin to surface. I reflect back to some of my favorites, such as spending time with my grandmother, learning to crochet or hot Sunday afternoon trips to the ice cream shop for banana shakes with my father.

Capturing all of those special moments on paper would be a dream, coming from an illustrator like myself. Not always easy to do. However, I certainly feel like I'm off to a really good start this past week and look forward to sharing more as the weeks progress. Simply exciting!

How about you? What do you like to do to capture those special memories in your life, whether it's photography, painting, writing - I'd love to hear about it.

  1. Your enthusiasm for that sense of discovery through art is contagious, even for me who gets to enjoy it every day. I love this write up and adore the illustration. Seriously professional and personal too. :D

  2. I love to capture special moments with my camera, or at least my iPhone. I also use them for inspiration in my writing and Smash book pages. Love your little boy in this week's sketch. Blessings, my friend!

  5. It used to be drawing, many, many moons ago :) Then photography took over my world. I am still capturing everything in photos both with a DSLR or my iPhone. Lately I have started an art journal, well, more a sketchbook, both paper and digital. But it is more for the fun and enjoyment of art than journaling.
Thank you for hosting and for such an inspirational post, Alexandra.

  11. A cute illustration Alexandra,
How lovely that he comes with all of your wonderful memories and even a cherry on top!
I started to write my blog and take photographs when I lived in Melbourne. It was my daughter's idea and now that I'm back in the UK I have a great journal and a photographic record of our time there. I couldn't imagine life without blogging now.
Thanks for hosting... it's always fun and inspiring to visit :D

  12. It is always fun to learn new things. I think learning needs to be lifelong. Regarding memories, when I look through specific things I have from childhood, it brings it all back. I need to maybe start sketching some of them. Sometimes memories are more fleeting, like when there's a certain light or feel in the air at the end of the day. It takes me back to an experience from my youth.
