Creative Tuesdays: Fairytale Tree-land...

It's been ages since I've been a part of Creative Tuesdays and thought it fitting to hop back on board now that classes are done for awhile. Although my plate is running over with project work, I felt it would be good to be a part of an art co-op that would continue to push my creative brain.  This piece is definitely outside of my comfort zone but enjoyed designing it...all the way down to the gum drop vines wrapped around the tree. Hee

In the final stages of this piece, in order to add the right detail, I used a combination of tools: White gel pen, Copic Markers, Staedtler colored pens, and my black Zig Millenium 01. Usually, I'll lay down my white spots first and then paint. This time, I chose to add the white last, which provided a bit more 'pop' to the final illustration overall.

  4. Alexandra, this is just perfect! Love how the tree is contentedly looking after his little kingdom in peace and harmony.

    1. Thank you so much, Linda. The tree was a last minute decision...or I should say, the face on the tree. I kept feeling like my piece was missing something and then the idea popped in my head - everything else fell into place. :D Hee

  5. I love this Alexandra! The big curve of the tree makes it feel like you're peeking into a magical world. I'd like to take part too. Do you have to do it today, or can it be at some point over the next few days? Thank you for sharing it! :)

    1. Hi Ellie, It's usually due at the end of the day but I'm pretty sure if you do it and leave a message on Mr. Toast's (aka Michael) page, he'll point you out. Thank you again - I love my tree with his semi-hidden face. :)

  6. Hi Alexandra, this piece is wonderful, and the detail is so magical and full of life! I also use (except for this week), Copic Markers. I bought a couple of Staedtler colored pens but didn't like them. I have a white gel pen which I haven't tried yet. Thanks for sharing your process and again your awesome art. :-)

    1. Thank you very much, Tracy. I wasn't quite sure on the detail and actually wished in the end that I had not made the lines so dark but it's slowly growing on me. :D I don't use my Staedtler pens often...usually only when I need bright colours to really pop - then I do. Have a great week! :)

  7. love the use of the colors and I didn't even see the face in the tree at first but that is such a good idea. this looks like a fun place to be. I like the ginger house and the heart and circle patterns, the lollipop flowers, the gumdrops on the tree - such great use of fun elements. do you give titles to your art? I would call this 'candyland' or 'candy house.'

I visit the entries from the latest to the earliest so I didn't see your entry first but I think this is the third CT entry that has red mushrooms in it but I actually like them.

you are sure good with the art tools, I haven't try copic markers but people seems to like them. one of these, I might try new tools but for now, I probably need to take lessons in using them.

hope you have a lovely day.

    1. Lissa....that is EXACTLY what I was thinking with the title "Fairytale Tree-land"...I was thinking Candyland as I loved that game growing up. Hee If you're interested, I'm developing an e-course to teach my way of art, use of tools, etc. Keep an eye out over the next month or so. Have a great day! :)

    2. Yes, I can testify to that, Lissa. Alexandra told me that whilst working on it. "Candyland"!
