I started painting my latest sketch that was shared a few days ago. It's been a full week already, but hopefully I can get Ms. Lady and her friend completed soon.
Now that the storms have passed tonight, I'm off to cozy up with the pups and hopefully get some rest.
She's looking good! I like the sky!

ReplyDeleteLadybirds always make me think of summer. I've just been to see my friend who is a potter. She does projects with infant/ junior schools and, the children draw pictures on clay tiles which get fired and are grouted together to make a large ceramic image and are put in the gardens of the school. Today's one's that were being fired had ladybirds and bumble bees on them. They were so cute and, although your painting is much more mature ( obviously !!) they have their similarities.

ReplyDeleteShe looks to be a sweetheart! Sophia..thanks for popping by..it's always great to see you. Regarding watercolors and controlling the wetness...so let's see..for backgrounds, I like to float a bit of clear water into the area that I want color to fill..then I load the brush with color and swish it into the background. I then dry my brush a lot, and take it into the background and move the paint and water around. Having a dry brush helps to remove some of the liquid while I'm moving the color in and around the background. Then I add more intense color and leave the background alone til it dries. I go in to the detail areas similarly - but instead of floating clear water, I gently use a pale version of color in the area I want to paint, dab with a tissue if it is too wet, and then use a dry-ish brush to work in the tone..perhaps taking a little more paint on the brush to add shadow, etc. I hope this helps! : )
