Whitby's Marie Antoinette's Tea Room

One of the many things on my to do list is to write about some of the most incredible tea rooms and coffee shops we've visited over the past several weeks here in Yorkshire. Nothing seemed more fitting than to start with the quaint and cozy, Marie Antoinette's Patisserie in Whitby. In fact, after doing some research about this darling place, I was pleasantly surprised to find several articles written about it, including being listed in the top 10 best Tea Rooms to visit in Yorkshire.

Tucked away in between other old, eclectic shops, this tea room is a perfect getaway from the often busy cobblestone street, filled with various locals and tourists alike. With soft classical music filling the room, delicate antique cups and teapots situated in miscellaneous nooks throughout, one is sure to have an afternoon tea to remember. The house blend tea was lovely and the homemade scones, topped with fresh strawberry jam and real clotted cream were exquisite. Who could ask for more?

Do you have a favorite tea room or coffee shop you love to visit? I'd like to hear about it!

  2. Oh this seems to be a heavenly pleasure! Unfortunately we do not have tea rooms like this in Germany, but I visited some tea rooms in Scotland last year and had unforgettable cream tea there. The details you show are lovingly and ... well words can not express how much I love this atmosphere! Many thanks for sharing this magic place :)

    1. It really was. There have been really incredible tea rooms and some, well, unforgettable ones, too. haha I've never been to Germany but looks like I'll be traveling there in a few weeks with the hubby for his work. I'm glad you've been able to experience some lovely cream tea, though! :)

  3. I love baked sweet goods but tend not to get them from tea rooms, most use milk in the yummy treats and that def a no go for me so we try making them ourselves, John is a pretty good baker so it helps :)

    1. Yes, I understand, Jennifer. My niece here cannot have dairy and such. It's nice to find a few places (although truly few!) who do offern gluten and dairy free products. But lovely to have a sidekick who can bake! uh huh :)

  4. we have nothing like that here. a few coffee shops, but no tea. that would be so nice.

lately, my husband and i have been hooked on watching The Great British Baking Show and love watching the bakers create some mouth-watering pastries and biscuits and scones and other yummy things!

i would weigh a ton if I was close enough to a tea shop like the one you visited!

    1. Awww where do you live again? I'm sorry I've terribly forgotten. Too bad. Although I can relate as back home there's one good tea room but we must drive about an hour, on a busy highway, to get there. Hubby's not always a fan of that. :) However, we have the most incredible bakeshop where we live and miss it so. haha

And yes, we've had to stop the cream tea adventures. We went to SO MANY our first few weeks here so the boys could experience them before flying home. Just now dropping the little bit of weight gained from those. hahaha :)

  8. Ohhh it looks just lovely! I wonder if there is such a thing as a bad teahouse or if you have yet to encounter one? I mean, in our country it's a 50/50 gamble when you go into a little restaurant or coffeehouse but in my travels, I have almost never been disappointed with the food/tea/atmosphere of any teahouse, pub, cafe I have ever gone to. :) And when the decor and atmosphere look like that. . . how could it be anything but dreamy?
