So, here I sit at a local coffee shop, coat draped over my shoulders and red scarf wrapped snug around my neck. A lot has been going on lately and tonight I'm trying to relax/rejuvenate myself for more hurdles tomorrow. My father is officially scheduled for a second major surgery where they will be placing a shunt in his chest for chemo and removing part of his colon.
Tears well up writing this as I recall the brief conversation I had with dad earlier this evening. It was heartbreaking listening to him express his fears through sobs, declaring his love for me and what a great daughter I am. There's a rushing river of extreme emotions going on inside me, but I'm doing my best to push through everything in order to be the strong one right now.
So, how about helping me by pulling up a chair here at the table, sharing a hot cup of tea and listening as I read one of my favourite children's books, Frog and Toad Together? Even Mr. Frog loves hot cuppas! How fun is that?!
oh sweeet one! I am praying for you and your father's complete healing. My thoughts, prayers, love and big hugs are with you during this most difficult time. My dad had emergency quadruple bypass surgery just two years ago and when you described your conversation with him in the hospital....well it reminded me how painful it is to think we could lose them. They are more tenacious than we think those sweet old guys. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers during these next days. xxxxxx

during my time taking care of mum while she battled cancer I found it a must to slip away for a few minutes a day(sometimes just closing the bathroom door) and allowing myself to feel my feelings...it was a major help at a terible time.

ReplyDeleteSophia,
ReplyDeleteI wish I were there in person to hold your hand and give you hugs to help your through this difficult time. However, since I can't be, I want you to hold these words in your heart: “If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. i'll always be with you.”
