Scribble Picnic (Umbrella)

Polly is excited about her special birthday cake and pressie. Aww Well, I finished my sketch for scribble picnic this week but was unable to finish painting it for various reasons. I promise to post it when it's completed.

Can you spot Polly's umbrella? How about the major change I made from my initial sketch to the actual illustration? It's always fun coming up with ideas and seeing where things land in the final stages. Such as my trees....they take several steps the way I paint them but in the end, they turn out quite magical.

For those of you wondering...I've decided to take the weekly themes and implement them into the UK birthday card series I'm working on. Thus the "4" located to the right of this illustration. It's perfect and pushes me forward in meeting my deadline while stretching myself as an illustrator.

Enjoy more Scribble Picnic contributions over at Michael's page. It's sure to be a fun-filled time for everyone!

  1. It's so cute - and will be even more perfect when completed. I do see the closed yellow umbrella, plus all the little details. I think it would make a lovely Birthday card - hey I wouldn't mind one myself, plus a slice of cake, and with a 7 added it will work come October!!!! Go figure where to place that 7 BTW!

Just adorable Alex - glad you made the picnic!
    Hugs - Mary

P.S. Was admiring your bears in little Colin's room again today when we made a visit to Cassie's - and she baked a lovely cake to go with our coffees. It was a fun visit.

    1. Thank you, Mary. I'll let you know when the UK birthday cards are finished. Hopefully, by the end of this month! ;) What would you like to see on the "7th birthday" card?

Thank you for your lovely comment and yes, M and I watched an Instagram story video Cassie had put up and I got to see my framed illustrations. SO blessed. :D

PS M and I would LOVE to come visit you in NC. Let us know if this is possible. xo

    1. Awww thank you, Lissa! Yes, I took a peek at birthdays 1-3 and realized they're all boys! Oops....better squeeze a little girl in there and it worked perfectly with this illustration. :)

  4. Did you notice... you have next weeks theme in this too ;-)
Umbrella handy to reach for is perfect. So many people keep them near the door. Such a charming piece!

  5. I think everyone should have a nice little umbrella holder like that. Sure would make keeping track of it a lot easier. This is quite magical. That's going to be a lovely selection of cards.
