Raise your hand if you like to collect bugs...well, pretty ones at least! I'm raising my hand for ladybugs and fireflies. :) I loved this week's Scribble Picnic theme - ladybugs. So perfect for me since I've already illustrated a children's poetry book about ladybugs and it has won 2 book awards and is now up for another one next month. Cross your fingers!
Anyway, I started the illustration of this little guy a few weeks ago and paused as I wasn't sure what direction to go with it. At least not until Michael announced this week's theme. Say....ladybugs are perfect for picnics. Ohhhh...I'm off to catch a few more so there's enough for everyone this week!
he's super, super cute! love the red eyeglasses being red like the bugs.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day.
This is sooo cute!
ReplyDeletelooks great :D love his glasses and good luck for the award :)
ReplyDeleteJust a cute as a bug in a rug...or a net...shall we say. Very adorable.
ReplyDeleteThat little guy looks like my grandson, but he was catching fireflies when I last visited. Bet he'd catch ladybugs if he could find some to catch.
ReplyDeletePS I like your matching red glasses.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute piece. It really has a the feeling of a lad having fun looking for lady bugs. Love the environment you created as well.
ReplyDeleteHee, I so love your write ups...every time, along with this fabulous entry too. Totally cute. Thank you for collecting the bugs for us all too. I love his dumpy tummy and nerdy bug-kid expression.
ReplyDeleteYes, that book is doing soo well. so happy for the author and you, especially that it is up for a moonbeam award nomination for best illustrated cover, best illustrator possibility too! Rock on. (Yes, I'll toot your own horn if you won't!) Amazing job there and here. You have ladybugs down!
Your art is always amazing but part of me hopes that the sotory line includes that the ladybugs he collects get released ... just sayin'

What a sweet little bug catcher!
ReplyDeleteWhen my son was about 4 he had "pet" lady bugs. If we found one anywhere, he swore it was the brother of his ladybug, and we had to capture it and bring it back to our house to be reunited with it's family. Your illustration reminds me of him at that age.
ReplyDeleteFabulous Alexandra - I'll take them any day over the darned mosquitoes!
ReplyDeleteGreat piece - can see it framed on a little boy's bedroom wall!
He looks like a very determined and courageous bug-catcher. I love that he's surrounded by all that greenery.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your book!! I love your little guy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie! He appears enthralled to see so many ladybugs within reach of his net.
