Sunday Sketches

Hello and WELCOME to round two of 2012.  (Sounds lovely to the ears, does it not? Hee)

This week I attempted painting my very first bird and am completely satisfied with it.  Not to sound arrogant, but the photo really doesn't do this painting justice at all.  I tried multiple snap shots and now scanning - it's the best I can capture it.

I have to admit that I almost scrapped the entire piece as it felt as if it were headed down a terrible path of ugliness.  Ha-Ha.  So glad I didn't.

One thing I do need to pay attention to is leaving more room on the outside of my artwork.  I always paint to the edges and don't realise it until it's completed.  Grr.  :)

Now it's time to visit everyone else.  Happy SS and lots of bloggie hugs.

  1. Oh I love robins so much and you did a wonderful job with this one. He is just so cute. My Mum feeds a tame robin in her garden. She goes outside and calls him and he hops out of a bush and comes to take food from her hand.

  5. Well, I can't image this being any better - I love it. Robins are so beautiful in their almost ordinary way - I guess maybe because they have slightly muted colors that their attitudes and music make up for it. (oh, and I TOTALLY understand about getting frustrated when not enough room around the corners... I fall victim to it nearly every time I paint) =)

It still has your lovely style but it's also so very delicate and the composition for this piece is great! Lovely work well done!! So glad you didn't give up on it!

  16. Wow--you can really see your growth as an artist with each one of your pieces. This one is definitely my favorite so far. (I also do the same thing with not leaving enough room at the edges of the paper though I'm getting better about that.)

  20. Great bird, I agree. I definitely am not ready for live things yet, still beginning. Thanks for the invite to join Sunday Sketches - I'd love to join in. Since I'm working hard to improve my drawing skills, I'm open to any and all helpful critiques or advice. Really. I have thick skin and just want to improve!
