Today was challenging at times for me. So, what did I do? I pulled out my art supplies this afternoon and let myself get lost in a world of creativity for awhile.
Here's a sneak peak at two characters I'm currently illustrating -- Toucan Dewey and Tippy the Turtle.
P.S. I'm submitting this for Paint Party Friday....make sure to stop in and say hello! :)
Okay my friend...I am feeling considerably fortunate not to have encountered any Blogger troubles today so I am on a roll getting to my favorites and catching up. The last time I tried to do this it kept telling me to sign in when I already was and it kept kicking me out; UGH! Anyway, I'm on a hot streak so I need to say a few things: 1.) YES, I'm thrilled Scotty won :) 2.) I love your card with the birds on it...I have told very few people, but I do watercolor as well and you've inspired me to get it out and do something so maybe in the next couple days I'll have something to share. 3.) WOW! I didn't know you survived domestic violence...I knew there was something that had greatly affected your life but didn't know what. I figured you'd tell me/your blog friends in due time. I know you know my story with my mom, etc...so I am VERY interested in hearing your story/thoughts/feelings and well, I'm here for you! hugs...
I have to say, this imaginary world seems like a cheerful place. And the best part about having it is that it's all yours! Hang in there! Wishing you smooth sailing ahead! :o)
Dear Sophia, Isn't it lovely that you have your art to help you through when you are feeling down ? In a strange way it is probably a source of inspiration. To have something to turn to when things are not so good is really good. Keep sketching and painting and try not to let things get you down too much. XXXX
Sophia, I am so envious of your talent (I can't help myself.) :) Creativity is the best way to help our minds, hearts, and souls... deal with any kind of pain. It's a wonderful thing to have an imaginary world to visit when we need to. Have a beautiful weekend!!! xOx
Sometimes it helps to retreat into the world of creativity. Challenging times can be made a little less by creating. Love the start of this toucan! :-)
Love the fresh new look of your blog and I have been enjoying your work over these last few weeks even though I have not been participating as much. Always great to pop in and see what happy creation has sprung forth.
I am loving your Toucan in the tree. He is hiding from the T-Storms that we are having in our parts.
I use Moleskine journals. I do sometimes have trouble with the paint bleeding through the spine, but not back to back bleeding through (except for alcohol inks- they bleed through gesso.) Sometimes I will put a piece of scotch tape down the spine to stop the bleeding if I think the paint will be too runny.
Love the look of your blog!
Have a great weekend. I hope to get something together for Sunday Sketches this week!
It is so wonderful when we can retreat into ourselves, having a resource within and a skill complementing it. Over the last few months I was so happy to know that you do have this resource and the skill too. Love the Toucan!Hugs, Paula
The healing powers of art! I tried to leave a comment the other day, but it appears I wasn't the only one having trouble! (I thought it was me - drove me nutty it did!!_
Eva suggested using Chrome as browser & that seems to have fixed my Blogger issues. As for your creatures - just adorable and lighthearted. Though I don't know you or your story, your critters speak happy, so take heart from them!

Cue music from Alice in Wonderland....
ReplyDelete"Cats and rabbits
Would reside in fancy little houses
And be dressed in shoes
And hats and trousers
In a world of my own
All the flowers
Would have very
Extra special powers
They would sit
And talk to me for hours
When I'm lonely
In a world of my own
There'd be new birds
Lots of nice and friendly
How-do'ya do birds
Everyone would have
A dozen blue birds
Within that world of my own
I could listen to a babbling brook
And hear a song that I could understand
I keep wishing it could be that way
Because my world would be a wonderland"
:)
aw, so cute! enjoy the thunderstorms! I like the birdie in the tree!have a good night
